Obituary

Carol S. Ornek, 66, passed away peacefully, at her home in Conway, SC, on Tuesday April 3, 2018, with her beloved family by her side, after a long, courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease. She was born on December 22, 1951 in East Hartford, CT to the late George and Shirley Smaglis.

A well educated and motivated woman, Carol attended Central Connecticut State University. She was considered a “jack of all trades” and found herself in different careers throughout her life, where she satisfied her natural curiosity. Through this wonderful life adventure, Carol made many friends and memories along the way. All who had the honor of getting to know Carol would describe her as the most selfless person and a blessing in their lives.

On November 22, 1972, Carol married her best friend and soul mate, Charles E. N. Ornek, to whom she was an incredible wife for nearly 45 years, and blessed to be a devoted mother for 39 years. Carol treasured her family above all else. They shared in family trips and she was known for her theme parties, whether it be for a birthday celebration, baby shower, holiday or any reason to celebrate important milestones. Carol will forever be missed for her gentle soul and beautiful smile.

Along with her beloved husband Charles E. N. Ornek, left to cherish Carol’s memory are their children, Nicole Ornek and Jason Ornek, and his girlfriend Chelsea; her grandchildren, Angelo Milardo and Giovanni Ornek; her sister, Janet Bissonnette and her husband, Fred; her brother, William Smaglis; her nieces, Monica Lukasik and her husband, Henry, Lauren Smaglis, Hannah Smaglis, Pam Maragnano and her husband, Tom, and Paula McMinn and her husband, Terry; her nephews, Ben Bissonnette, Adam Bissonnette and his wife, Janell, Kevin Smaglis, David Zaikarite and his wife, Amy, Phil Zaikarite, Matt Zaikarite and his fiancé, Jenna, Garrison Gross, and Emmett Statzer and his wife, Crystal; as well as many other loving family members and supportive friends.

A Celebration of Carol’s life will be held in Connecticut at a later date.
