Betty J. Elmore



Betty Jean Olive Elmore, 85, of Murrells Inlet passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Thrive Assisted Living of Murrells Inlet. She was born June 26, 1932 in Hopewell, VA, daughter of the late George Everette, Jr. and Agnes Drake Olive.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jeff Madison Elmore, Jr.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Andrew Elmore and his wife Ginger of Charlottesville, VA; one daughter, Jennifer O’Donnell and her husband Michael of Laurinburg, NC; one brother, George E. Olive, III, and his wife Gail of Surfside Beach, SC; one aunt, Catherine B. Drake; two grandchildren, Madison and Donovan O’Donnell, and several nieces and nephews.

Jean graduated from Hopewell HS and from JMU (then Madison College) in Harrisonburg, VA, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and the Glee Club. Over the years she taught in Fairfax County and in Spotsylvania County, both in VA. While living in Fredericksburg, VA, she became involved with Girl Scouts and served in many capacities, including six years as first vice president of the (then) Commonwealth GS Council.

Jean moved to Pawleys Island in 1995 where she became a member of St. Paul’s Waccamaw United Methodist Church. Being part of the St Paul’s Chancel Choir was a central part of her life from 1995 until her passing.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at St.Paul’s Waccamaw United Methodist Church at 2 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2017.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Jean’s name to Thrive Assisted Living, 699 Prince Creek Parkway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576, or to St. Paul’s Waccamaw, 180 St. Paul's Pl, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
