John M. Johnson

John Mark Johnson, 72, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Monday May 28, 2018 at his home in Pawleys Island. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 24, 1945 to the late Carl Glen & Leola Mae Pfieffer Johnson.

Along with his parents, John is reunited with his brother, Phillip Johnson; and his sister, Ruth O’Grady

In his younger years, John was an avid hunter and fisherman. His early love for nature led him to have an artistic eye and an appreciation for the beauty in the world around him. John was very proud to be a skilled carpenter and had a love for photography that he later shared with his granddaughter. John also loved bird watching, loved being among nature and adjusted well to Southern living upon his relocation to Pawleys Island.

A well rounded and exceptionally smart man, John was humble, warm and would graciously offer the shirt from his back to anyone in need. He took pride in trying his best to create or repair anything presented to him. If you had a problem, John had a solution. In his free time, John loved NASCAR and had an extensive die-cast collection. Above all else, John loved his family. He had a great respect for his beloved granddaughter, Kelsy, who proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps. John loved to hear his granddaughter, Lillian, sing his favorite song, Homeward Bound. John also made it his priority to show his grandson, Landon, the importance of never giving up and enjoyed introducing Landon to new experiences.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his daughter, Tina Smith-Bush and her husband, Richard Bush of Pawleys Island; his beloved grandchildren, Kelsy Smith, Lillian Smith & Landon Smith; his brothers, Paul, Stephen & Daniel Johnson; and his sisters, Priscilla Leighton & Rebecca Wilson; as well as many loving, supportive friends and neighbors.

John will be truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him through the years.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be privately.
