Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Joyce Ryan-Calabrese passed at home on Saturday, September 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the spouse of the late Ronald Calabrese of the Boston area. Joyce was the daughter of the late Henry and Josephine (Regnault) Moss of Warwick, RI. She graduated from St. Xavier Academy, Roger Williams Hospital School of Nursing obtaining her R.N. She was awarded her undergraduate degree from Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI and her graduate degree in Business from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. Joyce had the honor of sitting on many Boards of Directors including GRACE Ministries, Neighbor to Neighbor, Horry County Council on Aging, Alzheimer’s Association and the Waccamaw Aging Advisory Council.
Besides her wonderful and giving daughter, Kerri J. Brown, Joyce is survived by her son-in-law Brad, her very loving grandson Cody, and a great grandson, Adam. She also leaves three stepsons, James, Jack and Bill, a brother in New England; eight other grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Joyce’s legacy was that she always worked with those less fortunate than she: managing inner city clinics, implementing better healthcare systems for inmates in jails and prisons, attempting to teach about and treat alcoholism issues on Indian reservations in California, and before retirement, establishing an unsurpassed hospice delivery system for the surrounding counties in Myrtle Beach with an elite and professional staff.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to W.A.R.M. (Waccamaw Animal Rescue Mission) at PO Box 1764 Conway, SC 29528 or www.warmfarms.org which is a no kill rescue for any type of animal.
The family wishes to send many thanks to the staff of Regency Hospice who cared for Joyce with much love, integrity and professionalism and to all her friends who cared so lovingly during her journey, especially Reagan Callaghan RN of Elder Advocates and Dr. Laura Flint, PhD. of Specialty Physical Therapy.

Celebrating the life of Joyce Ryan-Calabrese
Thank you for signing Joyce Ryan-Calabrese's Guestbook
I worked at The Lakes At Litchfield when Joyce was the Director of Nursing there. We became friends and continued to see each other after she left. I remember spending time with her and Ron when we all went out dancing. She was a great lady and will be missed by many. Kerri, you and your family will continue to be in my prayers.

My heart goes out to you and your family. Joyce was the best! When I was a teenager she was someone I could always talk to about my issues. I wish I could have had her in my life later in life.
Love you Kerri and love to your family

Joyce was like a grandmother to me. She opened her heart and life to me and I will be forever grateful. She raised an amazing daughter and truly cared about all those around her. She was a wonderful and caring woman who put her heart and soul into everything she did. I will miss her so much.

I am so crushed for you and your family Kerri. We have all lost a class act. A gem. A role model. She is why I clean my baseboards, wipe out my tubs of all water, and occasionally put vinegar on my potato chips. 😉 In all seriousness she was the Proverbs 31 woman. I really regret not visiting you all in Myrtle Beach during my last trip to Wilmington NC. On behalf of my mom we are saddened and have prayers for peace for you. Love you. Andi

Mom, I cannot begin to say how lost I am without you. I feel I have lost my best friend. You amazed me with your courage and bravery thru all this. I thank you for everything throughout my life. I will miss you so much. Please embrace dad and "Dance" Shameless" . I will always be "Wishing you were here". I know to take time to "Stop and smell the roses" for I have learned life is short. I'll also look to the sky for that "Rainbow connection" Until we meet again "Doll" I love you so very much

God bless all of you in this devastating loss. Joyce was a wonderful woman, a servant, a friend, a mentor, a woman who loved and cared for her patients as if they were her own family. A remarkable woman who will be missed greatly by the entire community. Love to all of you and deepest sympathies.
