Philip Robert Roach, Sr., 80, of Garden City, (formally of Winthrop and Colton, NY) passed away Saturday, October 06, 2018 at his residence. He was born August 03, 1938 in North Lawrence, NY, son of the late Robert Roach and Martha Villnave Roach.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Roach and son-in-law, Robert Ruben.
Phil is survived by his wife of sixty years Joan Curtis Roach of Garden City; children, Regina Roach Sandlin (Todd), Laurie Roach Ruben, Philip Roach Jr. (Susan); sister, Rita Gebo; grandchildren, Gretchen Ruben Zengler, Robert Ruben, Madison and Delaney Sandlin; a great grandchild, Ethan Zengler; and sister-in-law, Patricia Roach.
Before retiring to Garden City, SC, where Phil and Joan have lived for eighteen years, he was employed at General Motors Plant in Massena, NY for twenty-five years. Phil was very active in his community. He belonged to the Jay Cees, coached and helped start Tri-Town Minor Hockey along with helping to get the arena built in Brasher Falls. He also played on The Old Timers Softball League. Phil was a member of one of the first baseball teams inducted in The Athletic Hall of Fame at SLC.
Phil was a long time member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Club in Murrells Inlet, where he will be remembered for his witty sense of humor. Phil loved tent camping and did it up until a few years ago. His family was the most important thing in his life. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
At his request, there are no formal services planned.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, -Mercy Care, 8216 Devon Court, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.

We were so sorry to hear that Phil has died.
He always had a great smile and a funny story to share.
We had so many memories growing up in North Lawrence.
